putting my own spin on things

Hurrah for the Weekend

This turned out to be an unexpectedly busy week. Lots of running around and projects. And I’m still plugging away at all of my Christmas projects and starting to plan out my Christmas baking. I send a box to my husband’s family in Las Vegas every year, and while there are some standbys (cranberry-orange bread read more

WIP Wednesday: Trophy Overhaul

The before photo isn’t great, but today’s project is a total overhaul of this trophy. I’ve dismantled it, cleaned it, pulled off the craptastic faux-wood contact paper and now it’s curing, so that I can put it back together tomorrow.

Tired on Tuesday

So I present you with evidence as to why I love this town: A bus, with a boat on top. Photo taken last May at the Willamette Valley MusicFest. Fun Fact: I did the design for the MusicFest site (coded by someone else). I’m not sure how much it may change for WVMF 2009, but read more

Monday Musings: On Holiday Knitting

I hate deadline knitting. Hate it. I like to just kind of plunk along, putting the knitting down for days if something else strikes my fancy. And yet it seems like I keep getting sucked into work on deadline. Knitting for babies, knitting to have something to wear at a wedding and knitting for the read more

Snapshot Sunday: Elk

I finally finished editing all of the photos from our trip to California. I haven’t gotten them all uploaded yet, but I found this one, and thought it would be prefect for sharing. On our way home up Highway 101, just north of Eureka we came on a herd of elk strung across the road. read more

Turkey Loaf

Most of the time it’s the little things that make me sentimental. If you’ve been following me for any length of time you’ll know that I was very close to my husband’s grandmother who passed away just over a year ago. Today, while in the freezer section of the grocery store, I had one of read more

Friday Fixation: Ibuprofen

Today’s Friday Fixations is ibuprofen, brought to you by the pulled muscle in my neck/shoulder. Enjoy your Friday night folks, I’ll be back tomorrow.

Sewn with Love

I know I posted a link to her shop awhile back, but I just wanted to post another link to my friend RachelM’s etsy shop. I have two of these bags from her and I love them to bits. These are perfect for small knitting projects but would also be perfect for organizing any small read more

WIP Wednesday: Vanilla Extract

I’m making my own vanilla extract! Based on these instructions and using vanilla beans from this store. In my one quart jar I put in six vanilla beans split in half (I used three Bourbon/Madagascar beans and three Tahitian), 4 ounces of vanilla extract and then filled the jar with Bacardi White Rum. 6 to read more

In Remembrance

In Flanders Fields Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, read more

Thoughts on November Rain

We’re definitely fully into another glorious Willamette Valley Autumn and I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on how I get through the winters here with a smile on my face. I love the rain. I never really expected to, but I blame my love of it pretty much on my stubbornness. As read more
