Action-Packed Weekend!

Comments Off on Action-Packed Weekend!

Friday I had plans with the Fabulous Kristi, but she was swamped with a paper, so I ended up out with TheBoy instead. We went and grabbed dinner down the street from our apartment, then headed over to the mall to catch Shopgirl which had just opened in wide-release. Its an absolutely fantastic film. Not only is it absolutely beautiful to watch-well shot, well edited, just beautiful in general-it was also a great story. Based on Steve Martin’s novella by the same name, he adapted it for the screen. It stars himself, Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman. After the movie was over TheBoy said he wasn’t sure which he liked better, Lost in Translation or Shopgirl. He later decided that he likes Lost in Translation better because its about finding yourself through love, while Shopgirl is about discovering love. Steve Martin is not only classy, he’s brillant and sexy and Jason Schwarzman is as great as he always is. At one point he even played airdrums, which cracked me up because he was the original drummer for Phantom Planet.

Then yesterday I went to lunch and then Christmas shopping with the Fabulous Kristi. Picked up a copy of Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas [we’re big mupper fans in this house!] for TheBoy along with gifts for several people [we started our shopping in September]. Then I came home and got ready to head out with TheBoy to a They Might Be Giants concert. Very good. TheBoy said it wasn’t the best of their concerts that he’d been to [this was his third] but we both enjoyed them. Good sound, good lights, good entertainment factor. They “opened” for themselves with a 25 minute set of songs they wrote about cities that they were in on their last tour, then took a 20 minute break to gear up for another hour and a quarter set. They played a lot of the old songs, including most of my favorites. We met up with one of TheBoy’s friends there, but they took off a few minutes earlier than we did. It was a decidedly good entertainment weekend.
