No, this is not actually a post about me knitting. It is, however, a post about the word intarsia. When I hear the word, it makes me think of knitting. Colorwork specifically. I bet a lot of other people think the same thing.

Turns out that intarsia is an italian word, for inlay. And that during the renaissance they would make these hugely intricate wooden inlay items [doors, chests, etc]. These objects are then referred to as [for instance] an intarsia door.
