That’s right, today is the longest day of the year, I’m in Anchorage, Alaska–land of the midnight sun, and I’m not staying up all night. Sadly, I need to be at work by 9 am tomorrow and that means leaving an hour before in order to catch the bus.
Speaking of the bus, my first day of work was yesterday. Justin [one of the other interns] and I had gone on a test run on Sunday, located the office building, wandered around downtown, bought groceries, and figured we were in the clear. Well, Monday comes around and the three of us interns living here got on the bus together. A half hour later we discovered we got on the bus going the wrong direction (they go the same way leaving our stop) and had to call their boss. Since we wouldn’t have made it to the office until 9am–after leaving at 7–he got a car and came to rescue us. We had managed to get completely turned around and ended up in the boonies, in some place called Muldoon. So far they haven’t let us live it down.
The job is good, living in Alaska is a little weird. I desperately miss TheBoy, although I’m sure everyone who knows me saw that coming. The lightness isn’t bad, however it messes with my internal clock a little. I’m not sleeping that well, not because its too light out to sleep–because its not that bad–but because my body is only tired from the time I get up until the time I leave work. 4 or 5 pm rolls around and I am wide awake. I am feeling sleepy now so it’s off to bed for me. I leave you with a photo taken out my bedroom window.
