I’m watching the debates and its really frustrating to me that Bush, whenever asked about anything relating to jobs or minimum wage, turns it into something about education and how well he’s educating our children. About how there’s so much more funding for students. Well, I can tell you that that’s crap. With an expected family contribution of $0 as a grad student this year I have been granted ZERO money that I do not have to pay back. I’m lucky that I qualify for work study and stafford/perkins loans, but these mythical grants, well, they’re not out there. And I’ve never known anyone (this is my 6th year in college) to get any sort of substantial Pell Grants, and the few I’ve gotten over the years (mostly due to the fact that my family had 3 kids in college at once) have never added up to even 1% of my total cost. So, my ass he’s giving us so much more money.
Oh, like Mac I’m frustrated with his lack of memory on the things that he has said in the past. That wasn’t that long ago, and its on a rather important subject. You’d think he could remember saying this:
Q: Mr. President, in your speeches now, you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden. Why is that? […]
BUSH: … I don’t know where he is. Nor—you know, I just don’t spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you […]
Q: Do you believe the threat that bin Laden posed won’t truly be eliminated until he is found either dead of alive?
BUSH: As I say, we hadn’t heard much from him. And I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don’t know where he is.
I’ll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him.
UGH! He’s LIVED (at least part time) in Maine and he just pronounced Bangor “Banger”. Its Ban-gore idiot! Also, I’m not sure that using Bangor International Airport as a measure of standards for anything is a good idea. Its a very wee airport (I’m pretty sure there’s a grand total of 2 gates), with comparatively few flights coming in an out of it.
I also am irritated by Bush’s teeth grinding grimace. If you look, one side of his mouth definitely is turned up and the other down, like he’s grinding down his molars. That doesn’t instill confidence in me. Not that he did before anyway.
