Happy Halloween

We're not doing anything for Halloween this year (we're staying home and cleaning the apartment since D's parents are coming to visit tomorrow) but I'd be remiss if I didn't share our birthday-cat's Halloween costume:

She hates it. Hates. It is kind of funny how defeated she looks when I put it on. Lest you think we are mean cat owners, here she is--all happy--with D.

When we got Pica a few months ago, they estimated her birthday to be October 31st so today our sweet girl is officially a two-year old cat. Let's hope she has many many more years left in her!

Join us back here tomorrow to kick off NaBloPoMo.

Drawing with Water

This is absolutely stunning. Emmanuel Guibert used water to create his graphic novel Alan's War: The Memories of G.I. Alan Cope It seems a little boring until right at the end and then it's just captivating.

NaBloPoMo

One of my 101 in 1001 goals was to blog for 28 consecutive days. Well, I've decided to tackle that goal and will be participating in NaBloPoMo. In order to come up with content, I think I'll be focusing some days into themes:

Monday Musings - in which I will reflect on something I've read or watched or heard
Work-in-progress Wednesday - in which I will share a project that I am currently in the middle of
Friday Fixation - in which I will highlight a product or item I just love to pieces.
Snapshot Sunday - in which I will share a photo or photos of something that interests me

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday will be non-themed days, for whatever strikes my fancy.

In the Fall, We Preserve

The weather has been perfectly fall lately, if a little dry. A couple of weeks ago we took a drive out to pick up some apples for applesauce and apple butter, and since then I've been drying apples in my impulsively purchased Ronco Food Dehydrator. This weekend we're off to get some pears for dried pears [it's my understanding that I can quarter them, remove the core and dry away. So easy!] The dried fruit is easier to pack and eat in lunch boxes which is important because my husband and I are working to get into better shape.

My mother-in-law recently took a trip to Hawaii and returned with this piece of fabulous kitsch:

Bobbleshark is soooo happy!

There is something so unbelievably happy making about watching a plastic shark with a giant grin bobble away. There's no place to install him in the car (since the prius is a hatchback) so he's been gracing the corner of my desk at home. When I'm feeling down, all I need to do is give him a tap and I perk right back up. I recommend bobbleheads for everyone.

Hall and Oates

Brilliant, tasty, Saturday Night Live impersonations. With song.
