Recent Yarns

All of my recent spinning has been for a swap, so it was quite secret. Now that they've been received, I can post pictures!

Spun from a Grafton Fibers "poof" About 140 yards, 4 ounces

Approximately 60 yards; colored ply is kool-aid dyed corridale wool, brown is 100% Flint the Llama. Didn't remember to test wpi, but it's pretty fine. Approximately 1 ounce

My first attempt at navajo plying. Roving was Spunky Eclectic's chocolate covered cherries. Approximately 120 yards. 4 oz.

Open Letter to MARKLASER

Dear MARKLASER,
I know I gave you a stupid name, but it needed to be descriptive of where you live and how you work. I didn't want to call you Phaser7400DN even though that is your given name because quite frankly, that's too much. Too many numbers mixed in with the letters. I know that I was silly to think that my temporary fix of installing you with your non-static IP address until I got the static IP from NetworkGuy was anything but a futile plan. But I needed the instant gratification of printing to you, instead of having to transfer my file to another computer and print to the printer down the hall. You worked so well then that I thought I had gotten away with something. However, now that I have reinstalled you with your proper, static, permanent IP address [which matches that which you wear proudly emblazoned on your digital screen] you are behaving like a complete and total dick. You refuse to talk to my computer and have frozen me out. Why do you have to be like that? What did I do to make you so angry that you refuse to print, instead sending my jobs back at me with a glaring "communication error"? You may resent that I had to delete you. I apologize. I'd like to be friends. Please.

Love,
TheBon

Friendly Neighborhood Hero.

I have great friends. On Wednesday night, I printed and put together a sample of our save-the-date cards. And hated it. It was going to be a lot of work and was going to look "crafty" in a not-so-very good kind of way. So, yesterday morning, I rearranged my digital files for a new format and decided to look into just printing them as postcards. Yes, I know it's boring, but my brilliant non-postcard idea didn't look classy enough. [Because people are flying in from all over the country it would be really tacky of us not to send save-the-date cards as well.] At any rate, I started looking into places to print online. Many places have a minimum order of 500. I need 65, max. So, I looked into another online printing company from whom I could buy 100 for approximately $55 since it was my artwork, [that $55 included shipping.] Now, the online printing company in question only does online proofs. This wouldn't be a problem but their online proofs simply spit back a pdf of the documents that you have uploaded. I couldn't be sure that the front side and back side would print in correct alignment. So, last night I got in touch with TheBoy's best friend [he's TheBestMan in the wedding] who happens to work at a graphics shop. And he said he could print exactly what we'll need, and now I know they won't get screwed up! Huzzah for TheBestMan! So, instead of sending my money away to benefit some LargeInternetCorporation, I'm putting it into the [relatively] local, family-run graphics shop. I'm much happier spending my money that way.

Swap Questionnaire

I joined a swap and it requires me to fill out a questionnaire about my spinning habits. To spare those of you who don't really care that much, I'll post it behind the cut.

1) How long have you been spinning?
Just shy of 1 year.

2) Are you a beginner, novice, or experienced spinner?
I'd classify myself as an intermediate spinner. I am fearless and have conquered a variety of fibers and techniques. I'm pretty fearless when it comes to spinning, I'll try anything until I get it right.

3) Do you spin on a drop spindle or wheel, or both?
A wheel. I'm not a big fan of the drop spindle, I don't even own one. I spun on one for a week, because I had to for the class I took.

4) What types and weights of drop spindles (or what type of spinning wheel(s) ) do you currently own?
I have a Kromski Prelude [mahogany stain.] I love her.

5) What type of fibers have you spun with before?
Merino, merino/mohair blend, llama, alpaca, romney, corridale, a random wool blend, a tiny bit of merino/tussah silk, blue faced leister, superwash merino, and I'm probably missing something in there.

6) What fibers do you prefer to spin with?
I love merino, corridale, llama, and alpaca.

7) What fibers do you dislike?
I prefer not to spin mohair, or anything that is really coarse, like jacob sheep fiber. I've got a ton of Romney, so I really don't need more of that.

8) Do you prefer natural colored fibers, or handpainted/dyed fiber?
I like both.

9) Would you prefer all one type of roving or smaller amounts of different types to sample?
I'm game for either.

10) What are you favorite colors?
I like deeply saturated colors. I prefer cool colors, blues, greens and purples, but I also really love red. I love dark brown paired with wacky bright colors like turquoise, lime green and fushcia.

11) What colors do you dislike?
I'm not huge on yellow or orange.

12) What would you like to do with your handspun yarn, or what do you plan to do with it? (pattern clarification here)
A scarf, socks, or mitts, most likely.

13) What spinning projects are you currently working on?
I have some kool-aid dyed corridale that I'm spinning as well as some 100% merino. No intended use for these yarns so far.

14) Do you have a wishlist?
here's my wist

15) What are your other favorite hobbies?
I'm an avid reader, an artist [drawing and painting], a historian, a lover of old buildings, and a knitter.

16) Do you have any allergies (pet, smoke, food, fiber,etc...)? smoke.

17) What is your preferred shipping method (USPS, UPS, FedEx)? I prefer USPS truthfully, but ship however you need to.
