Sparkly!
TheBoy and I visited the jeweler yesterday in order to approve the wax and pick a stone for the center of my ring setting. We decided on a .56 carat Ceylonese sapphire of medium darkness [especially knowing that it will appear darker once set into the setting.] And of course, we took photos. please ignore the fact that it appears not to fit together, there's no way to attach the wax to the pre-made platinum setting. Here's a shot of the wax showing the counter-balanced band.
and one with it on my finger where it appears not to fit. After casting the band will be narrowed quite a bit, and rounded on the underside so as not to remove skin from my knuckles constantly.

Engagement Photo
I keep meaning to upload this, taken the evening after we got engaged, from our balcony overlooking the ocean in Lincoln City.

Oy.
I am unused to being home. I like being home, but I have less interest in updating this here blog than I did before I left. Nothing much has been happening, except that TheBoy and I met with the jeweler and should see a mock-up, or at least be selecting a sapphire for my engagement ring soon.
My allergies have been nuts lately. I keep sneezing and sneezing. Welcome back to Oregon!
TheBoy and I went in search of an office chair the other day and found the perfect one only to be told they didn't have any in stock. We're going to call the office depot stores in Salem in the morning and if either of them have one, we'll pick it up there on our way to see theboy's family. I am quite excited to see his mom again, I haven't seen her since before I left for Alaska. I also get to hang out with the llama again. And everyone knows I love the llama.
Home Again, Home Again.
Made it home fine from Anchorage. Feels weird to not be working anymore, although I start back at my normal job again on Monday. Definitely a great internship experience and an organization I'd love to work for again.
Only one of my suitcases made it in with me on my connecting flight from Seattle, but it was home again before 18 hours had passed. Horizon was great about taking care of things and getting it back.
Headed out to the coast with TheBoy on Monday. Stopped at Nye Beach, one of the places he took me on our first date. We had packed a picnic so we could spend some time on the beach in the sun and the sand and after we ate we were both digging in the sand, talking about how when I was a kid I thought all sandy beaches had buried treasure [hey, we don't have many sandy beaches in Maine!] A few minutes later TheBoy was digging and I asked him if he was finding me treasure. His response to this was "Not unless your idea of treasure is an ant." Of course I poo-pooed the ant, because it wasn't shiny and began digging a little hole of my own. Next thing I know he was asking "well, then how about this?" and i turned to find a really lovely white gold claddagh ring sparkling up at me. Then he asked if I would marry him and of course I said yes. We're going on Monday to meet with a jeweler to design my permanent engagement ring, I'm pretty non-traditional and we didn't shop beforehand together at all so we decided this would be the easiest and least stressful way to get a ring that is not ugly. Who knew that wanting something that was not yellow-gold or a diamond would make me so difficult. No solid plans for the wedding yet, will keep things updating as time moves on.
TheChin comes to Anchorage
So, Bruce Campbell was here in Anchorage yesterday signing books and screening sci-fi channel original movie "The Man with the Screaming Brain". I showed up 2.5 hours before the book signing began and was 4th in line to get my stuff signed. This makes TheBoy the proud owner of an autographed copy of "Make Love* *the Bruce Campbell Way" and myself the proud owner of an autographed copy of "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor".
TheChin is even more handsome in person and I almost blurted out "I have the hugest crush on you" but managed to contain myself. My favorite moment from the night was during the Q&A before the movie when he was asked "If evil dead is remade, who do you want to see play Ash?" Without hesitation he replied "Ashton Kutcher!" After a moment of shocked silence he quipped "I mean, don't you want to see him raped by a tree?! I sure do!!"
I have photos, but I'm having upload difficulties, so you can check them out at flickr.
