Cathartic Ink putting my own spin on things

School, homework, more school.

I haven't had a chance to upload the photos from TheMom's visit yet, and they're on the other computer right now. I went to Portland on a class trip yesterday, visiting buildings that were significant either in their use of wood or metal. It was a fun trip, I took a lot of photos [which are also on the other computer.] We were given a tour of two of the houses [the Watsik House and the Jorgenson House--both designed by John Yeon]. The houses were built in 1937 and '39 and are both magnificent works of wooden modernism. Since it was raining we were asked to take off our shoes, which was slightly weird, but ok. There will be photos, althought not many of the houses, we were asked not to photograph the interiors as the current owner doesn't wish to have his belongings made public knowledge. We got back to Eugene about 7pm and bed was really early. Most of my today has been spent grocery shopping and doing homework, writing descriptions of properties for my survey and inventory class. I also prepped some beef, sweet potatoes, mushrooms and green peppers for a trip on the grill as kebabs and finished knitting a short-sleeved duo. Just have to sew it up now! Photos later.

Rise and shine, rub the sleep out from my eyes…

Peace Train - Cat Stevens
Well, TheMom should be safely back in Maine at this point. I have not yet received confirmation of that, but she had a 16 hour total traveling time yesterday [changing planes in Salt Lake City and Cinncinnati]. We had a great time together and I have photos from our trip to the aquarium that I will be posting soon. It was great fun.

In other news, I came in to work today, because we have a deadline to get my current project to the printers today. That's fine, and the file was given to the people we're designing for. They were to make appropriate changes and dump it back onto the server for me. Well, I get here at 9.30 and there's no file on the server. So now I have to sit here and twiddle my thumbs waiting, my contact won't even be in for another 10 minutes and then I'm supposed to confer with my boss to make final layout changes at 11. At this point it doesn't seem likely and I don't like the stress that has now been dumped on my lap. Its the first run we've had with printing these brochures and we've been on a tight schedule all along. *sigh*

excellent.

TheMom made it here in one piece, although she came down with a miserable cold on Saturday while visiting my older sister in Illinois. Yesterday we took her to the made in oregon store and other various shopping places. She bought me a camera bag as my birthday present. Then last night we took her to dinner and to Alton Baker Park to see the beginning part of the 1 billionth scale solar system that runs in the parks along the north bank of the Willamette.

She brought me my old old laptop that was given to my sister when I had to get a better one for school. We discovered that it was broken (power bit was broken on the inside) but TheBoy was able to take everything all apart and put it back together again. He says it works, although I fell asleep last night before he finished fixing it. On today's agenda, maybe a haircut for me and then a trip to campus to show my mom around and then a trip to Salem to introduce her to TheBoy's mom and Nanie. Tomorrow is a trip to the aquarium.

scattered.

my mom will be arriving in town tonight from maine so theboy and i have been so scattered with trying to get everything ready and me getting work done so i can take three days off from work and classes...anyway...

on friday, i was in the office of deeds and records [where they hand out the marriage licenses] doing deed research for a class and a couple who looked to be in their 70's came in after a marriage license. I only caught bits and pieces of their story but they had been sweethearts when they were young and then ended up getting separated. He had gone on and married someone else, she had never married. She moved to California and he tracked her down and found her again. And now they're getting married. It was the cutest and sweetest thing I have ever seen.
