For Mac, mostly.
Yesterday, I was in the weird, caught-in-the-80's rite-aid on Willamette and Kristi and I were visiting the candy aisle, in search of some kind of snack. Well, I stopped because there were Abba-Zabba and I was trying to decide if I wanted to try one (yeah, I know, I'm a nerd, I've never had one). I glanced down at the next shelf and discovered Peanut Chew!! There was only one there, and lord knows how long its been there as I also ended up with a Big Kat from circa 2002-3 (there was a contest on the wrapper). Mac sent me some of these a bit ago and TheBoy and I loved them. They were delicious. But I was harboring the idea that I could not get them here. I am glad to see that at least for today, I am wrong.
TheBoy and I decided that it was about time we went to the movies. There are very few movies that either he or I need to see at full price so we were limited to the dollar fifty theatre selection. [As a side note, I'm not sure what the last movie was that I paid full price for. We normally go to matinees, and even with non-matinee movies the first run theatres here have student discounts.] At any rate, we decided that we both wanted to see The Incredibles.
I was impressed. Really. It was cute, but not overly so. It was predictible, but not overly so. And it had Jason Lee as the voice of the bad guy. What more can one ask for out of life? The animation was extremely well done. The hair, which is the hardest part to model, was so shiny and moved naturally. I really like the almost plasticine quality of the characters. They struck me as very nostalgic for the era of claymation that spawned such movies as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I would have to recommend the movie to anyone who hasn't seen it.
New Addition
Derek and I bought a pet today. After going through the reptile show with him I asked him to go look at fish with me. We've tossed the idea of getting a fish around and we finally got one today. Just a really generic beta, mostly for ease of care and lack of the need for a huge, complicated, expensive set up. He doesn't have a name yet, so feel free to offer suggestions. Sorry for the blurry of the picture, he kept moving. Also, the water has a lot of tiny little air bubbles in it.
Bad Habit
I'm really weird about music. I love it. But I go through spurts where I don't listen at all, and other spurts where its the only thing that keeps me going. I also go through cycles of living. I own somewhere around 150 or so cds (I used to have them catalogued extensively, but I lost track somewhere). I tend to fixate on groups of music for awhile. For instance, I'll decide that I absolutely have to own every studio release by Our Lady Peace (there are five and I do, indeed, have them all). I'll also get on a single cd kick where I will listen to the same cd on repeat for weeks on end. Recently its been Brooks West, Elephant by The White Stripes and as of yesterday The Dresden Dolls self-title album. I have been coveting this cd for quite awhile now and was on the verge of buying it when the fantastic and fabulous Kristi purchased it for me as a random gift. I had heard some of their music before, quite awhile ago and I'm kicking myself for having waited this long to actually own the cd. Where else will you hear songs about the anger of a hermaphrodite?
Manamanah
It should come as no surprise to anyone that I love the muppets. So when I started seeing the commercials for new diet cherry vanilla dr. pepper I was definitely intrigued. I also absolutely hate diet soda. I am definitely willing to make an exception to my hatred for this one though. Derek picked some up the day that I went to Portland and so we tried it that night. It tastes enough like dr. pepper, but the cherry and vanilla are enough to mask the bad taste of fake sugar. I give it a good, solid two thumbs up.
I haven't seen the non-diet version of the soda yet, but I'm intrigued to try that too. I'm a little worried that with actual sugar the soda will be thick and too sweet. We'll wait and see.
