Cathartic Ink putting my own spin on things

Lucky, or social change begins at home.

Inspired by Julie I would like to say the following:

I was a lucky child, I was raised by a stay-at-home dad and a go-to-work mom. My sisters and I were given trucks, and hammers, and anything else we were interested in playing with. We wore red, and blue and pink and any color we decided we liked. I was taught to play catch, to whittle, and carve, and how to build a fire. I was taught how to garden, and how to drive the tractor and how to knit, and cook and sew. But the most important thing I ever learned from my parents was that I could do anything I wanted. I was also lucky enough to be taught about equality and sharing work, and now while I cook and clean the house, my boyfriend does the dishes and the laundry, and we never have to fight about why there are no clean towels. I can't wait to teach this lesson to my [future] children, its one of the most important things one can impart.

Shaved her legs then he was a she…

...She says hey babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Kristi has been having issues with Harold, her male turtle. He's been going nuts, not eating, not going poo, and pacing the tank, slapping at the water. When left to wander around the house, he keeps moving, pawing at the floor. Worried that he had parasites, pnuemonia or something else really bad she took him to the reptile doctor today.

Guess what. An x-ray revealed that he is a she. And very very full of 7 eggs, taking up almost half of the room in his shell. She had been told by a vet that he was a he, and that her other turtle, Maude, is a she. The reptile doctor she saw today offered to look at Maude for free to determine if there's any chance the eggs could be fertilized.

And now I just keep singing Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" in my head...Doot, doo doot, doo doot, doo doot doo doot. doot, doo doot, doo doot, doo doot doo doot...

Harold's x-ray. I numbered the eggs for ease of finding them.

Foray into color.

So, I alluded to a foray into color and here it is.
before :

after:

Its mostly purple and blue black with pink and blondish bits scattered across the top. Process photos in the extended entry.

The box of hair dye that totally looks like it was a left-over of the 80's. Oh yes, we had to have that one (it worked well too)

Me as a blonde. TheBoy has said he never wants to see this photo again, he hates blondes.

The purple setting. (Manic Panic Purple Haze)

Two-colored hair. (Purple Haze and Feria Natural Blue Black)

I added the pink and blonde (it was supposed to be a solid black cherry color, but I like it this way) because when we pulled through the cap for the black lowlights the entire top of my hair got dyed because my hair is so fine.

All in all I love this new hair. Very punky. Very me.

Punk. Part 2.

PATTERN: Beaded wrist cuff from Stitch 'n Bitch Nation
YARN: Elann Sock it to Me Colori, Highland Heather, less than 1/2 skein
BEADS: Generic EBeads (I kinda guessed on size of beads because none were labled size 8 seed beads, and I like this size in comparison to the stitch).
GAUGE: 8 st/in
NEEDLES: size 2 clover double pointed needles (2)
MODIFICATION: I knit 3" before the beadwork and .25" after. I then bound off and seamed with mattress stitch instead of 3 needle bind off.

Punk.

I have apparently become drawn to knitting with beads. The other night I was looking for a short, relatively brainless project to work on, and I can't resist a good skull and crossbones so the beaded wrist cuffs from stitch 'n bitch nation covered all of the project elements I wanted. It was a really easy knit, although I made a couple of goofs (after the yarn got tangled I accidentally clipped my working yarn, spilling beads everywhere, and then came up six short after restringing due to a counting error). I don't have a photo yet, because I just finished it and I'm at work, but I will have the photos up later. I'll also have photos of my other recent foray into playing with color...
