we’re all citizens of the womb before we subdivide
Inspired by Julie and Cyn I've decided to make a list of the reasons why I am a feminist...
Because I believe in equality
Because I believe that my ideas, designs, and views are worth just as much as any man's.
Because I never want to have to tell my daughter "only men get to be..."
Because I never want to have to tell my son "only women get to be..."
Because I believe that love knows no gender, age, race or language
Because I believe that the right of legislation stops when it touches a persons' body.
Because I believe in empowerment.
Because I believe in the value and honor of being a mom.
Because I believe that my place is where I fit, not where someone tells me to be.
Because I believe that to not be a feminist means to admit that I am worth less than someone else and therefore deserve less rights.
Because I was raised by parents who taught me that I was strong, and that I could do anything I set my mind to.
Because I will gladly spend my life proving they were right.
Because I have always been surrounded by strong women--my mom, my friends, my teachers, my mentors, my boss--and they have inspired me to reach every part of my potential that I possibly can.
Because I was educated in a traditionally male field and saw first hand how much of the good ol' boys club still exists.
Because I have too much respect for myself not to be.
Definitely an Ani Day…
I'm in an off mood today. Really, I'd classify myself as being off. Not just a mood, a sense of being. I guess that's what happens when you are entrenched in your second week with no days off. This weekend was a success, but tramping about for 8 hours in the cold damp assessing buildings does wear one down. Especially when I think ahead to next weekend, where I have to make a trip for work on Saturday and a trip for family on Sunday. The 29th, which is the next day where I have nothing scheduled, seems a long way off. Forgive me if I start to babble incoherently at anytime within the coming weeks.
Far & Away.
I'm gone this weekend, until Monday evening. I'm off to survey some historic buildings on the coast of Oregon. TheBoy is holding down the fort back at the apartment, fending off the squirrels and what not but there'll be no new posts here until I get home.
Oooh, burn!
Because I like to play with things that smell bad and could burn me I decided that I needed a bottle of ArmorEtch and some glass things. Specifically a pair of on-sale rectangular glass vases from Michael's. The one I did, which is my first attempt at etching, mind you, is for a friend who is having a rough time right now. I'm pretty sure she'll know who she is and can decide whether or not to click the link to see before I give it to her.
