School’s In Session.

So, I started classes yesterday.  The SHPO seminars I was hoping to take are a go (whee!).  SHPO is the State Historic Preservation Office and they're going to send professionals to Eugene on some Saturdays this term to teach workshops in things of the legal variety, etc.  I'm a little overwhelmed by my classes right now, I've never done a term-based system and they cram an awful lot into 10 weeks.  I have to write many many many papers, so things may get quiet on this western front.  My foot tends to be better in the mornings, and then by the time I hobble home at night, it has a good case of the suck.  Anyway, I'm off to finish getting ready for work, Wednesdays I work from 8-5...Whee!

Oooh, purple!

Just because I've become too addicted to Sims 2 to create a real post, here's a photo of my bruised toes.  Its bigger and uglier today (I do know that I have ugly, weird, short toes, thank you.)

Knitting Related Injury.

Yesterday was one of those  days.  I was up for less than 45 minutes when I tripped over a plastic box full of yarn and knitting, which shifted against a very large, very heavy laundry basket, which didn't shift at all.  The result of this was my toe shifting.  At this stage of the game I'm pretty sure that it is just a really bad sprain.  I had to go to work about an hour after I did it, so that was fun all around.  I'm gimping it up pretty well.  I got home and managed to take my shoes and socks off only to find that while my toe isn't swollen too badly, it is very very purple.  I tried to take a picture, but they were fuzzy and not worth looking at.  Work was slow and lame yesterday, plus a lot of the customers were crabtastic.  Yesterday was also "big stuff" move in day at the casa of thebon.  So I sat and waited for the moving crew (derek, his mom, stepdad and best friend) to arrive here.  When they did I managed to gracefully land under a coffee table, after tripping over a curb while carrying it.  I was fine, however I had to watch a guy who was getting out of his car crane his next to try and discern if I was alright or not.  All in all, it was a VERY long day.

Someone Used to Pee Where I Work.

Yup, its true.  I started my second job yesterday.  I got a tour of the building and a brief introduction to the programs that the building houses.  Since I'll be working in the marketing department, this is a necessity.  All I know right now is that some of my projects for fall term involve working with food services.  There are some areas that need to be branded (wow! I'm going to get to help design logos for places that may be used for many years yet!) and lots of signage that needs to be cohesified.  I'll be starting out as a straight graphic designer and all, then eventually, once we have generated enough work (ha, that won't be hard), maybe next term, or spring term, my boss will be hiring other students to work as designers and then I'll oversee them.  Whee! I met one guy who works for another department in the building and he immediately tried to steal me from my boss when he found out that I was a graphic designer AND have work study.  He asked if the marketing department would be using all of my work study allotment and my boss looks at him and says "Yes. She's mine."  So that was lovely.

Now, about the peeing...Back some time ago there used to be a graduate teaching fellow position to work as the night watchman of the EMU.  Now, part of the benefits of that position was that there was an apartment in the building that was provided for them rent free (how weird would it be to live in the student union?) When that position was removed, the apartment was taken out, kind of.  They took out the bathroom fixtures, and my boss repainted the walls (red and tan!) and the walls still have the tile most of the way up them.  There's also a door (non-working) that goes into the rest of the apartment, I'm not sure what that's used for now, probably storage.  Anyway, the office isn't huge, but I get my own key, and I love it.  I'm going to end up moving a bunch of stuff in to help make it even more my home.  Whee!!

New Stash!

I went to a new yarn store the other day; the Knit Shop where the owner was lovely and the store was open, roomy, and easy to locate things in.  Much, much nicer than my trip to Soft Horizons Fibre, and probably my LYS of choice here in Eugene.  I got some yarn for a hat I'm designing for a friend, although no photos of that yet.  I also picked up some brown sheep nature spun sport in turquoise wonder, pepper, and spring green and a skein of brown sheep cotton fleece in Lime Light that was on sale.  I had to pry myself away from her sock yarns, she had some very very beautiful ones.  Anyway, here's a photo of the new members of my stash (as always click for biggerization):

I also took a photo of the mitts I'm working on.  I've almost got the thumb gore done on the second one, and I love them.  The one shown here just needs its fingers picked up.  I know the cuff ribbing is wonky, but I decided that since I was being dumb enough to make it wonky, that I would live with it.  The other one does not have that wonkiness. Please ignore my rough hands, they've just been through a lot of cold, manual labor.
