Sockin’ Fool

Thanks fellow knitters on the sock compliements. The pinkish pair were my first ever and man, am I hooked.

So, yesterday was one of those days. It all started at 10.15 pacific, with my cell phone ringing. Since I use it as my alarm clock, it was right next to the bed. Somehow I had screwed up my shifts at work by looking at the wrong week on the calendar and instead of having to work at 4 like I had thought, I was supposed to be there at 10. I made it there in 19 minutes. Of course it helps that I only live a 4 minute walk away. Once there I was just discombobulated all day. I was kind of tired, kind of out of it, and I've been battling issues with my sinuses lately. Then I came home (a copy of 13 going on 30 in hand) and proceeded to become completely lost until about 3 am when I finally put myself to bed. I'm not even too sure what I did with a lot of that time, other than watching the Sunday Evening Sex Show on the Oxygen network at midnight. That show cracks me up. Little old Canadian lady talking sex with people who a. can't talk with their partner, b. are entirely misinformed and c. who apparently think a dildo is the devil (some of them). She has a chest of toys and is constantly whipping them out while talking, and last night, I almost peed myself laughing when some guy called in to say that his girlfriend was terrified that she might get pregnant by swallowing during oral. Yup. That's the kind of questions she fields. If you get the oxygen network, I totally recommend checking it out, she cracks me up.

Alright, since I'm not entirely sure I've stated this, I work at Blockbuster now. Its not ideal, being so corporate and all, but it helps to pay the bills and I love my coworkers. Also, its not a permanent career, which makes it easier. I also start a second job in a month, one that is much much more in line with my degrees and with my interest and experience in graphic design. The best part of my job is that I get free movies. They called it "product familiarization" or something like that. So, I've watched a lot of movies in the past couple of weeks...Let's see...before i started working there derek and i had rented-
The Cooler which was good. Once Upon a Time in the Midlands which was okay and Bubba Ho-Tep which was fantastic.
Since then we've seen God is Great, and I'm Not-GREAT, Boondock Saints-fantastic, one of my favorites, Starsky and Hutch-pretty good, Spiderman-great, we watched it again and then saw the second one, 13 Going on 30-really cute, Men In Black-don't know, didn't watch it, Hellboy-disappointing, Love Actually-again, disappointing, Le Divorce-alright, Intolerable Cruelty-pretty good, Pieces of April-mediocre, Owning Mahowny-okay, 13 Conversations about 1 Thing-fantastic, About a Boy-good, SLC Punk-also good, Animal House-alright, Derek made me watch it because it was film at UO, The Tao of Steve-eengh, Elephant-I didn't care for it, and Ameican Splendor-very good.

There are three more movies but I can't for the life of me remember what. I think I'm on movie overload. If anyone has any recommendations, new movies, old movies, please leave me a comment and let me know! I'm running out of ones I think I ought to see already.

MR. CHUBS STAY STILL

Alright, so somehow I've missed the Declare Yourself PSA's on comedy central. Luckily for me, and everyone else who likes humor and voting, they're available online. They're directed by Kevin Smith, which again proves his greatness in my mind (I have a huge huge huge celebrity crush on him). Besides, where else can you watch things that include the phrases: "Chicks dig registered voters" "Voting, zero gams of fat, carbs though are pretty high, walk it off." "YOU'RE KILLING YOURSELF WITH FOOD!" and "Mr. Chubs, hamsters don't go out on dates." So go, check them out, and more importantly, make sure you're registered to vote, and then do so. You're given a voice for a reason. Use it.

Photo Heavy!

Okay, time to catch up some on what's going on in my knit-life...But first, an obligatory, cutesy, self-taken photo of the boy and I, somewhat drowsy, taken Sunday (click for biggerization):

Alright, moving on here's knit photos:

From l to r We have the JexSox, from the Pippi Kneestocking pattern in stich and bitch, done up in Sockotta. Then we have my socks in progress, a second set of Pippi Kneestocking socks in another colorway of Sockotta, my basket-case birthday socks, and the sock yarn that I purchased to make Amy's Twist And Shout socks as another pair of birthday socks. Then we have a hat that I knit, because I was bored when I first moved. The first is me, wearing said hat, although I'm not sure if I'll keep it, or send it off to someone as a gift. Anyone need a hat? At any rate, its knit in Cascade 220 Quattro, I'm unsure of which color, its two shades of green mixed with two shades of purple. The off-white is a random ball of worsted wool that I picked up at my LYS back in Fargo. The second shot is of the top of the hat so you can see my random striping better. The pattern is a simple helmet, using the base of the kittyville hat, again from stitch and bitch. It also has a super simple crocheted edge on the bottom.

1001 Reasons Why I Love Him

I had an exceptionally good weekend. Our friends came over on Friday night to have beer and watch Hellboy and the highlight of the evening for me came about with this photo of our friend Ben:

No, he did not drink that much on his own, there were 4 of us that contributed to the pile of beer bottles. However, since he fell asleep on the carpet, we felt we needed to use that as a photo opportunity. And it really amused the rest of us.

Saturday Derek and I went to a party at his mom's house, as it was his stepfather's 60th birthday. It was super super hot, and I think I ended up with a mild case of heat exhaustion or sunstroke or something on Friday and so I felt a little out of it and spent most of the party sitting in the shade and trying to make the pug suffer less from the heat. We all spoil that dog, but he's a very well behaved little dog. He also likes to pose for the camera, hence this photo I took on the 4th of July (click for biggerness):

At one point I was sitting, visiting with Derek's grandmother, and half watching Derek talk to an older woman named Mary. Apparently, when introductions were made, it was not clear to her that I am Derek's girlfriend. I could hear the two of them talking, and while I tried not to eavesdrop, it's really hard sometimes. Especially since I could tell that she was trying to set him up with her granddaughter. I would've been annoyed, except that he kept telling her he didn't need to be set up. At any rate, it was a fun time, even with the miserable heat and by the time we got home it had cooled down a little bit and we were able to make the bedroom cool enough for sleeping in about an hour and a half. It's nice to have been accepted into his family so completely.

Sunday was spent being lazy, and watching movies. Love Actually was not as good as I had hoped it would be, and I also didn't think Hellboy was that great. Mostly I got really really bored in the middle.
